Winds of the Azores. A mysterious treasure: the migration of birds

These mysterious islands, lost in the middle of the Atlantic, provide a staging post for certain migrating birds. But why do they make this detour? Amateur ornithologist Carolina FERRAZ is trying to answer this question.

“There have been very few studies of the migratory birds that stop off in the Azores. We don’t know why the birds we commonly see here come this way. However, we think the rarer visitors have been blown here by the wind, by storms. This migratory bird is known by the scientific name Arenaria Interpres. I want to study the habitats these birds choose for their stopovers so they can be protected.”
