Planet Mosaic en France

The Ain

In the east of the Rhône-Alpes Region, one small “département” provides a medley of some of the most beautiful landscapes our planet has to offer: barren peaks reminiscent of the Alps; verdant hills blanketed with forests of pine or fabulously contorted beech trees; plateaux suggestive of the Mongolian steppe; sparkling cascades, of water in summer, of ice in winter; cultivated fields that, in spring, are as colourful as a Van Gogh painting; and views of Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Western Europe. This area, where five “lands” merge to form a single “département”, is the Ain.

We meet the wardens of the Haute Chaîne du Jura nature reserve, follow a botanist capable of identifying thousands of plant species despite their complicated Latin names, witness the discovery of a new flower and observe an extraordinary encounter with the western capercaillie, a magnificent bird that is, unfortunately, threatened with extinction. This film is a bonus extract from the four films made in the Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur, Midi-Pyrénées and Brittany Regions (4 x 52 minutes + 4 x 30 minutes bonus).
